Why five days works
Zanzibar splits naturally into two moods — Stone Town's history and the coast's beach time — and five days is enough to give both a proper stretch without feeling rushed between them.
Days 1–2: Stone Town
Zanzibar's old town rewards slow wandering more than a checklist — narrow alleys, carved doors, and a genuinely different pace from the coast. Two days is enough to settle in without needing to rush.
Days 3–5: The east coast
Most visitors base themselves on the east coast for the remainder of the trip — wide beaches, calmer water, and the kind of days built around doing very little. Tides here move a long way out, which is worth knowing before picking a spot to swim.
Key things to know
- Drier months are generally more predictable for beach-focused travel — confirm current seasonal guidance before booking.
- Stone Town and the coast have genuinely different paces — plan real time for both rather than treating Stone Town as a one-day stop.
- Entry requirements can change, so confirm current visa guidance before booking.
