Discover Rwanda
The Land of a Thousand Hills — mountain gorillas, savannah safaris, and Lake Kivu's shoreline, arranged by an agency based right here in Kigali.
Booked by people who live here.
Rwanda is best known for one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences on Earth — trekking through misty bamboo forest to spend an hour with a mountain gorilla family. But that's only part of the story: this is also one of Africa's cleanest, safest, and most walkable capitals, with savannah safaris, chimpanzee tracking, and a lakeside coastline all within a few hours' drive of each other.
Being based in Kigali means we're not arranging this from a desk overseas — we know the parks, the seasons, and the permit process firsthand.
Volcanoes / Musanze
Roughly 2–3 hours by road.
Akagera
Roughly 2–3 hours by road.
Lake Kivu
Roughly 2–4 hours by road, depending on route.
Three parks, three experiences.
Gorilla trekking permits are limited and should be booked well ahead — talk to us early if Volcanoes National Park is on your list.
Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla trekking is the headline experience — a guided hike through bamboo forest to spend a closely regulated hour with a mountain gorilla family. The park is also home to endangered golden monkeys.
Akagera National Park
Rwanda's Big Five safari destination — savannah, lakes, and acacia woodland home to lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino, best seen on a game drive in the dry season.
Nyungwe Forest
Chimpanzee tracking through ancient rainforest, plus a canopy walkway suspended above the treetops and surrounding tea plantations.
Beyond the safari.
Lake Kivu
One of Africa's great lakes — calm boat rides, lakeside towns like Gisenyi (Rubavu) and Kibuye (Karongi), and a relaxed stretch to end a safari itinerary.
Kigali City
A clean, hilly, walkable capital — local markets, a growing café and restaurant scene, and some of the best-run urban planning on the continent.
Mount Bisoke & the Congo Nile Trail
For the more adventurous — a volcano hike to a crater lake, or a multi-day trail tracing the Congo Nile Divide above Lake Kivu.
What you'll actually spend your days doing.
Gorilla Trekking
The headline experience — a guided hike to a closely regulated hour with a mountain gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park.
Golden Monkey Trekking
A shorter, less physically demanding trek in the same park, tracking Rwanda's endangered golden monkeys.
Akagera Safari
Game drives and boat trips across savannah, lakes and woodland, home to Rwanda's reintroduced Big Five.
Chimpanzee Tracking
A more demanding trek through Nyungwe's ancient rainforest, paired with a canopy walkway above the treetops.
Lake Kivu Time
Boat rides, kayaking, and simply slowing down at a lakeside stay — the natural close to a safari-heavy itinerary.
Coffee, Tea & Culture
Rwanda's coffee and tea cooperatives, local markets, and Kigali's museums and memorials round out a trip beyond the parks.

Where to actually stay.
We match the stay to the route rather than pushing one property — here's how accommodation options break down by area.
Lake Kivu Escapes
Lakeside stays around Gisenyi (Rubavu) or Kibuye (Karongi) — the natural choice for a slower, closing stretch of a trip. See Lake Kivu →
Volcano-Area Stays
Lodges around Musanze, positioned for an early start on gorilla or golden monkey trekking days. See Volcanoes National Park →
Kigali Nature Stays
A quieter, greener alternative to a city-centre hotel for the arrival or departure night. See Kigali →
Weekend Escapes
For a short break rather than a full itinerary — Lake Kivu or Kigali alone both work well as a standalone weekend.
We match accommodation to your route, budget and travel style when you request a quote — we don't publish fixed property names here since availability changes by season.
Whatever kind of trip you're after.

Rwanda for First-Time Visitors
The 4–5 day Essentials route above covers the highlights without overcomplicating a first trip.
Rwanda for Families
Kigali and Lake Kivu suit most ages; gorilla trekking has its own age and fitness considerations worth discussing with us first.
Rwanda for Short Stays
The 2–3 day Quick Escape route works well as an add-on to a longer regional trip.
One desk, coordinating the pieces that matter.
Flight into Kigali → airport transfer → hotel → local transport → your tour. Each step is a separate booking if you arrange it yourself — HighEnds coordinates them as one trip, so a delayed flight or a changed plan doesn't mean chasing three different providers.
Everything, through one desk.
Flights
Reservations and ticketing to and from Kigali.
Airport Transfer & Car Rental
Getting from Kigali International Airport to your hotel, and getting around between parks.
Hotels & Tours
Stays matched to your route, and gorilla trekking, safari or chimpanzee tracking arranged around them.
Some trips work better as two stops.
Wildlife and mountains first, then something different — a beach, an island, or another safari country. These are combinations we see work well, not fixed packages.
Rwanda + Tanzania
Two different safari experiences in one trip — gorilla trekking here, then the open plains and sheer scale of the Serengeti.
Wildlife & Safari
Rwanda + Kenya
Pair gorilla trekking with a classic Big Five safari on the Maasai Mara — two distinct wildlife experiences without leaving the region.
Wildlife & Safari
Rwanda + Uganda
Rwanda and Uganda both offer gorilla trekking permits in neighbouring sections of the same Virunga ecosystem — some travellers combine both for a longer primate-focused trip.
Wildlife & Adventure
Rwanda + Zanzibar
Wildlife and mountains first, then island time — a common close to a Rwanda trip for travellers who want a beach at the end.
Beach & Islands
Rwanda + Seychelles
A quieter, more private island close than Zanzibar — suits couples wanting Rwanda's adventure followed by a genuinely restful finish.
Romance & Beach
Rwanda + Mauritius
A more resort-style island finish — suits travellers who want structured beach amenities after Rwanda's more active pace.
Beach & Relax
Long-haul pairings — Rwanda + Dubai — also work well as a wildlife-then-city combination.

A comforting stew of pumpkin and beans, sweet and earthy — a wholesome, vegetarian-friendly Rwandan classic.
